Laptop or Desktop Making the Right Decision

Deciding between buying a desktop or a laptop can often be a tough one.

However there are certain factors that can help you make the right decision.

The very first question that comes to the mind of a computer buyer today is whether to go in for a laptop or a desktop. This is especially true today when the laptop prices have dipped to low levels and are almost at par with desktops. Although the portability of a laptop is tempting, yet the good old desktop offers some benefits that a laptop can never do.

Processing power Although laptops today come with highly powerful processors, yet they do lag behind in the processing power that can be typically packed into a desktop. The reason is that processors use up a lot of energy and as a result, laptop versions need to make a compromise on this. Whereas, there is no such compromise when it comes to desktops allowing them to support highly powerful power guzzling processors. Ease of Use If your work involves long durations of time spent on the computer, you may be better off with a desktop. The main reason for this is that it’s much easier to work with a mouse compared to a trackball. And though you can solve this problem by connecting a mouse to the laptop, there is little that you can do about the awkward positioning of keys and the absence of the numeric keypad.

Prolonged Usage Probably the best part about using desktops is that they are very robust and you can virtually run them continually for days together, whereas that is impossible in the case of laptops as they tend to get heated up very soon. Moreover, even the best of battery backup can offer a running time of barely a few hours. Upgrading No matter how latest is your computer model, sooner or later you would certainly need to upgrade. Although brands like Toshiba laptops do claim that their range of laptops is immune to the obsolescence factor, yet the thumb rule is that it’s far easier and cheaper to upgrade a desktop as compared to a laptop.
